Description

The endogenous tripeptide gamma-glutamyl-cysteinyl-glycine, characterized in the literature as the principal intracellular antioxidant. Its cysteine thiol group reduces reactive oxygen species and participates in phase-II conjugation reactions, cycling between reduced (GSH) and oxidized (GSSG) states. The GSH/GSSG ratio is widely used in laboratory research as a marker of cellular redox status.
